Cancer survivors, caregivers cheer Bears to victory

The Chicago Bears have played host to cancer survivors and their caregivers at Halas Hall, their Lake Forest-based training site, during October as part of the National Football League’s “Crucial Catch” promotion, but this year they were forced to the sidelines due to the COVID-19 pandemic. That didn’t stop them from attending Sunday’s Bears game via Zoom, coming together to root on their favorite team to a 23-16 victory over the Carolina Panthers.

After nearly a decade of supporting breast cancer, the NFL and the American Cancer Society have evolved the campaign to address early detection and risk reduction efforts for multiple cancers, in addition to breast cancer, to increase their impact. This year’s NFL event is titled “Crucial Catch: Intercept Cancer.”
