Congressman hosting Town Hall Thursday on cancer

“Viewing Cancers in the 21st Century” is the theme for a town hall meeting hosted by U.S. Rep. Danny Davis on Thursday, April 18, from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Mile Square Health Center’s second floor staff lounge, 1220 S. Wood. The event, which will be held to educate the community on healthcare and the University of Illinois Cancer Center, is open to the public.

Scheduled speakers are:

  • Karriem Watson, DHSc, MS, MPH, associate director of community engagement and co-director of the Office of Community Engaged Research and Implementation Science at the UI Cancer Center, will discuss cancer screenings.
  • Neeta Venepalli, MD, associate professor of hematology/oncology, University of Illinois College of Medicine and associate chief medical office at UI Health, will present new cancer therapies.
  • Susan Hong, MD, director of survivorship, UI Cancer Center, will discuss what happens following treatment.
  • Robert Winn, MD, associate vice chancellor for community based practice and director, UI Cancer Center, will discuss how the UI Cancer Center is moving forward towards its National Cancer Institute designation.
  • Ramona Burress will share her story of survival, from diagnosis to treatment to post-treatment.
