American Cancer Society Extramural Discovery Science Grants Workshop

The American Cancer Society awards research grants and fellowships to promising scientists early in their careers who have unique hypotheses for cancer prevention and study, fostering the next generation of cancer research and creating a strong foundation of preliminary evidence to make scientific advancements. ACS also sponsors grants that support clinical faculty seeking to develop their ability to conduct independent research. Recently added grant mechanisms are open to mid and senior-level investigators to develop new ideas or establish new methodologies.
Post-docs and faculty from all disciplines are welcome.
Workshop Objectives
- Provide an overview of American Cancer Society funded grants and research
- Provide “Insider Tips” for a successful application process
- Understand review process and how grants are evaluated

Scientific Director, American Cancer Society
Dr. Doug Hurst, Scientific Director, joined the American Cancer Society (ACS) in 2022. As the Scientific Director of the Biochemistry and Immunology of Cancer Program in the Extramural Discovery Sciences department, Dr. Hurst oversees peer review and grants management in areas related to DNA and RNA mechanisms, immunology and blood cell development, and tumor biochemistry and endocrinology.
