Bias Reduction Training

As part of the Health Equity Pilot Project Program, the University of Illinois Cancer Center is holding four Bias Reduction in Internal Medicine (BRIM) workshops for faculty and staff. Per College of Medicine policy, “this training is mandatory for all College of Medicine faculty”. Workshops (including lunch) will be held in the Cancer Center, SRH 5th Floor Conference Room (818 S. Wolcott Ave).

The seminar will be offered:
- April 26, 2023 – Noon to 2 p.m.
- May 16, 2023 – Noon to 2 p.m.
- June 01, 2023 – Noon to 2 p.m.
- June 21, 2023 – Noon to 2 p.m.
This workshop provides training for recognizing and understanding implicit bias.
Workshop presentations, interactive exercises, and discussions will enable participants to apply evidence-based strategies to reduce the impact of implicit bias in the context of their workplace. Participants will learn how to break their own bias habits, help interrupt bias processes, and reduce bias primes in their workplace environments.
The Breaking the Bias Habit® workshop will:
- Describe the effects of implicit (unconscious) bias
- Identify common forms of bias that operate in academic medicine
- Provide evidence-based strategies for reducing bias in the work environment
