Saving Lives with Lung Cancer Screening
June 2, 2021 @ 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm
Lung cancer is the leading cause of death from cancer and the third most common cancer in both men and women. Early detection of lung cancer can make treatment more successful and save lives.
Experts recommend certain current and former smokers — people who are most at risk for developing lung cancer — get screened. Despite the benefits of getting screened for lung cancer, however, many people don’t get screened and screening rates are especially low among some high-risk groups. What does this mean for patients? And what can providers and public health professionals do to address this issue?
Please join us for a conversation with Dr. Karriem Watson of UI Health and the University of Illinois Cancer Center and Linda Dowling of Rush University Medical Center to discuss the importance of lung cancer screening, updates to lung cancer screening guidelines, and community engagement strategies to address disparities in screening.
