South Austin Community Health and Resource Fair

The South Austin Neighborhood Association is partnering with PCC Community Wellness and other Austin area community organizations to host a health and resource fair focused on the following health-related domains: physical health (blood pressure screenings, blood sugar screenings, COVID home test distribution, COVID vaccine administration, etc.), mental health (behavioral health services info, addiction services information including Narcan distribution, yoga demonstration, etc.), childcare (local childcare resources and free giveaways), and food (healthy food demos, produce giveaways).

The individuals reached by this event will be from historically marginalized communities with less access to health care, including preventive care such as cancer screenings. In addition, individuals from these communities often have worse cancer outcomes due to disparities in screening and treatment. Providing education about the types of cancer for which routine screening is recommended in addition to describing why it’s recommended and how the screening is done will help prompt individuals to discuss with their own care providers.
