Dr. Merrill’s group has had a longstanding interest in the Wnt/beta-catenin signaling pathway and how it affects cellular properties important for stem cells and cancers. Recently, his group developed new CRISPR/Cas9 based technologies to provide cells sets of instructions, which can be executed in a preprogrammed, sequential order of events. These technologies are being used for several applications, including the recording historical information about a cell within its genome.
