Kevin Haas, MD

Dr. Kevin Haas is a VST Assistant Professor in the Departments of Pulmonary, Critical Care, Sleep, and Allergy at the University of Illinois College of Medicine. His interest in medicine has been evolutionary, with several notable points. It started in fifth grade when he became intrigued by photosynthesis because it is the same concept of how Superman acquired his energy GÇô from the sun. His favorite subjects in medical school consisted of pulmonary and cardiac physiology which, along with the challenge of managing critically ill patients, which led him to specialize in pulmonary and critical care medicine. He became more involved in research during his pulmonary/critical care fellowship by working on several projects and presenting posters at national meetings. Forming diagnostic plans from radiographic interpretation led to his interest in Interventional Pulmonology and specifically, the management of pulmonary nodules. During his interventional pulmonary training, he had the privilege to work under Dr. Kevin Kovitz and Dr. Alexander Chen. Under their mentorship, he bagan to develop his own academic career. In the past year, he has given medicine grand rounds and department lectures on the management of pulmonary nodules. Dr. Haas also obtained a foundational grant addressing barriers to lung cancer screening in an urban population and published a review paper on hepatic hydrothorax.
